THEME: FAITH LIFE OF CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS (Part 24)
TOPIC: THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH
SPEAKER: Peter Ayoola Fakeye (PAF)
Hebrew 11:9-10
We will see that Abraham didn’t work things out with his own strategy as regards possessing the promise, instead, he relied absolutely on God. In verse 10, we saw the reason He was not going to make things happen. The bible says, “He was waiting for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” Abraham was a great man of God; he understands what many believers in Christ does not understand today. He had an understanding that there is nothing a man could build with his own ability that can stand. Therefore, instead of trying out something for himself, he rather waited! I want you to know that God's intention for us is to bring us to a place where you do nothing so that we can trust and rely on what He's done. Abraham relied on what God is going to do, but now we are more perfect, we are supposed to rely on what Christ has done, because I cannot think of anything else you can do in light of the revelation of what Christ has done.
Hebrew 12:22-24
The first thing I want us to learn about Abraham is that he is a man of Faith. A man of Faith is not someone that is short sighted, but could see through the lens of God, i.e. see things the way God sees it. Abraham could have built a dynasty for himself because he was very wealthy and has lots of resources. Also the power of God was so mighty upon him such that his men fought with three nations and they overcame them. But Abraham was not just short sighted, he was not just concern with momentary achievements and attainments, but He saw through God’s lens and saw us. Abraham saw you and I; He saw that glorious city God was going to bring us into. He was not disturbed about the momentary attainment, rather his heart was focused on the glorious city that Christ is going to bring us into.
If you are only concern about yourself and what you can achieve, then you won’t be able to fulfill God’s given purpose. Abraham saw us in Christ; he saw what Christ is going to do with his children. No wonder he didn’t take a step outside God as regards possessing the land. For instance, if we can open our eyes and see how Jesus bled for this country Nigeria, how he was crucified for our unbelieving Friends and parents, we will not want to take any step outside God. We have been so self-oriented that we don’t consider what Christ has done on the cross. Therefore, there is no compassion towards sinners, instead we have been living our lives selfishly like this world is what we only have. I want you to know that your wrong steps may make a generation cry and gnash in hell. God has made you someone's miracle, and if we don't start placing value on what Christ has done, many attached to us may miss out.
What you see affects your decision! For Abraham, he saw a city that was built by Christ atonement; he saw the Church that was registered in heaven; he saw men fellowshipping with the triune God (Hebrews 13:23). what are you seeing? Brethren, when we start seeing situation and circumstances with the lens of the cross, we will be tamed in God's way and God's path. When we start seeing Nigeria, your community with the lens of Christ and his finished work and not with the lens of the economist, we will live and function according to God's purpose.
Dear believer, have you not been occupied with self? Many believers don’t add positive impact or value throughout a week, instead their schedules have been cloaked with activities that has to do with themselves only. I believe the Holy Spirit is revealing this to us because He loves us and want us to thread the right path, which is the path of faith. We need to know that we can't accidentally fulfill divine purpose. But until we start considering Christ and what He has done, and we start connecting with lives as a result, we will just be going about with our business and building dynasty for ourselves and we won’t walk accordingly to God’s pattern for life.
God has a great plan for you! Therefore, start resting on Him.
Stay blessed!
