Hebrew 11:1

Substance here means foundation; something that is firm. It is very important for us to understand this because many people think faith is just a figment of imagination or an idealogy. Faith is not based on experience neither is it calculated through reason. 

Faith is also the foundation of any hope we may have under God. If our hope is not sitting or resting on a foundation, then our hope will be dangling in the air. Faith is a bed rock for whatever you are hoping to receive from God. If a person's hope is not hanging on the faith of Jesus, then that hope will be dashed (Romans 5:5). We have seen how God Himself engaged faith in His Son for the creation and redemption of man. Therefore, God's hope of having many sons in glory is hanged upon the faith in His son, Jesus. This tells us that Faith is the foundational basis for any Spiritual set-up.

Faith is the sustance and not a substance. That is, it is the only thing we need for us to live a victorious life which is the very life Jesus has won for us. Faith has always been a foundation that everything hangs upon in the Spirit realm. And the material for the foundation is the word, Jesus. 

Let's look at the word of Jesus himself to Peter. 
Matthew 16:15-18
In the scripture above, we saw people with different opinions/views about Jesus. So Jesus turned to His disciples and asked them, "who do you think I am?" Peter replied through the revelation of the Holy Spirit, "you are Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus blessed Him, and told Him that He will build His church on this rock. What is the rock Jesus was referring to? The rock is the revelation of Jesus that Peter received. The revelation of the person of Jesus is the content of our Faith. There is no faith when there is no revelation. For example, to have faith in Christ about healing, then you need a proper revelation of what healing is in the light of the resurrected Christ. Also to put faith in the Christ for provision and prosperity, then you'll need a proper revelation of what prosperity is. This is how we are being shaped into Christ's likeness day by day. Faith is the substance you need for building up and growing up to live the Christian life. It is the foundational basis for everything that will stand.

Ephesians 2:19-22
Bible tells us that we are built upon the foundation of the Apostle and prophet. And the foundation of the apostle is the revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself is the chief corner Stone. If we will be built up, then we'll need to daily trust and depend on the Holy Spirit for revelation of Christ. What makes Faith substantial and foundational in your life, is the revelation of Christ you receive. Brothers and sisters, how substantial is your faith? How daily do you desire to receive fresh revelation from the Holy Spirit. This is how we came alive and this is how we can change our world.
