Sword that the Spirit weilds (Victor's Mentality 48)

It is again a pleasure and a privilege to share God's word with you. I sincerely pray that your life will be blessed in Jesus’ name.

In today's article, we are starting a new focus within the victor's mentality series, specifically the sword that the Spirit wields. Let us look at our reference text for this series:

“And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.”
— Ephesians 6:17 (AMPC)

When we examine the complete armor of a Christian believer as described in Ephesians 6, it becomes both fascinating and beautiful to recognise our identity as Christians.

Each piece of this armor: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of readiness of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit are intentionally provided to us by God so that we can remain victorious and continue winning in life.

Every piece of God's armor shows us that our Christian life is not passive. We are not bystanders or spectators. God has strategically positioned us in this world and equipped us not for theoretical engagement but for spiritual engagement.

We are given these tools to push back against the activities of the enemy and claim our ground in the Spirit. As believers, we are meant to be the primary drivers of events, influencing outcomes in our spaces, advancing God’s purposes, and walking in victory.

Today, I will begin discussing a very unique weapon: the Word of God, which the Apostle Paul refers to as the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17).

What makes it stand out? It’s the only piece described primarily as an offensive weapon.

Paul calls it the sword of the Spirit because this is the very sword the Holy Spirit Himself uses. He moves and acts in line with God’s Word always. Scripture tells us the Spirit upholds the entire universe “by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3) and that “by the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host” (Psalm 33:6).

Even before Jesus was born, the Word had already gone forth in prophecy. Throughout Christ’s life on earth, the Holy Spirit kept moving Him in perfect harmony with everything that had been written about Him. That alignment produced the ultimate victory over every limitation, every opposition, every obstacle.

In the passages we’ve examined, the Greek word used for the Word of God is "Logos"; this refers to the written Word, the Scriptures inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). The Logos is not merely ink on paper; it is Spirit-breathed and carries the authority of God packed with His promises, principles, and purposes that are meant to shape our reality.

When the Holy Spirit moves, He wields the Logos. He breathes life into the written Word and stirs it in our hearts. That’s exactly what happened with Jesus: every word He spoke, every miracle He performed, every step He took was the living fulfillment of what had already been written.

The Holy Spirit seeks to achieve this in our own lives. Because this sword is offensive in nature, the Spirit wants to use the Word to stir us to action, to empower us to advance God’s purposes in the same way He empowered Jesus. He wants to make us a force for victory in every situation we face.

Therefore, believers must cooperate with the Spirit as He uses His Word to make us a force for victory in every situation.

Today’s article serves as an introduction. In the next article, we will explore how to properly handle and use the sword.

Brethren, prayerfully meditate on these things.
