Application of the gospel of Peace 2 (The Victor's Mentality 31)

My beloved readers, you’re welcome to today’s article. I’m sure you’ll be mightily blessed. We’ve been sharing on the victor’s mentality, with our grand text from Ephesians 6:13.

We’ve been looking at the armor God expects us to put on so we can keep winning in life and ministry. Presently, we’re in verse 15: “And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;”

We’ve been considering the shoes of the gospel of peace. Last week, we started looking at the application of the peace the gospel produces. We began with the first one: peace of the conscience.

Today, we’ll move to the second: tranquility of the mind.

The peace the gospel gives doesn’t only reconcile our position before God; it also governs the condition of our inner life. The peace that justifies us before God now extends to calm and stabilize our thought realm, bringing tranquility to the mind. The thought realm is crucial. The mind is the battlefield where most unrest begins.

In the last article, we talked about peace in the conscience, which affects how we see and approach God. But sometimes, our conscience can be at peace with God, yet our thoughts still run wild—worrying, analyzing, imagining outcomes, or predicting the worst. That’s why wearing these shoes is non-negotiable. As it affects your conscience before God, it will also stabilize your mind in this present world.

Look at Philippians 4:6-7:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Anything that surpasses human understanding is divine. So, the peace that the gospel bestows is such that passes all understanding—human comprehension. Paul is saying the gospel sanctifies the thought pattern, bringing the mind under the influence of divine rest. Instead of anxiety and worry, let your mind stay on Christ in prayer, thanksgiving, and supplication. Then you’ll experience the serenity that governs God’s throne.

Isaiah 26:3 says: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” The key to this divine peace is focus, as we see in Philippians 4:6-7. That’s the blessing of prayer, worship, and even fasting—it keeps your heart focused, your mind stayed, not scattered.
When the mind is fixed on Christ, it draws from His composure, calm, and confidence in the Father’s will.

Before salvation, our minds were driven by fear, performance, and uncertainty. Therefore, to enjoy this divine peace, you need to train your mind to stay focused on Christ. And some of the best ways to train it is in prayer, communion, and fellowship.

Psalm 57:7 declares: “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed.” Our mind and heart fixed on Christ is how we continue to receive and enjoy divine peace. You still think, plan, and act—but without anxiety. You operate from a settled awareness that Christ has gone ahead of you in every matter.

As I conclude my teaching in this article, here’s how to guard your thought realm from anxiety, worries, and confusion:
1.  Keep your heart focused and fixed on Christ (as already discussed).
2.  Guard your thought gate—
Monitor what occupies your thoughts. When your mind races with “what ifs,” bring those thoughts under Christ’s peace. Ask: Would Jesus be anxious about this? If not, neither should I. Would Jesus worry? If not, why should I?

3.  Respond from rest, not rush
—Before reacting, especially to bad news, pause and breathe. Whisper to your mind, “Lord, You are my peace.” This intentional pause lets your response flow from faith, not fear.

Ephesians 2:14 says:
“For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.”

Meditate on this and similar scriptures to remind yourself.
