THE VICTOR’S MENTALITY 16 (Implications of being girded with truth)

In our last article, we began exploring the whole armor of God, starting with the girdle of truth. We saw what truth is: Truth is simply how God sees everything. And how does God see everything? Through Jesus Christ, who is the Truth personified. It doesn’t matter how logical your view or perspective is—if it’s not how God sees it, it’s not truth.

We discussed other insights about the girdle of truth, which you can find in detail on this blog site. In this article, we’ll continue from where we left off, focusing on the implications of being girded with truth.

Let’s revisit the scripture I shared in the last article:“And thus you shall eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord’s Passover.” (Exodus 12:11 NKJV)

The Lord instructed the Israelites to keep a belt fastened around their waists to be ready for action the moment they were called to move. Right after the Passover, they were to begin their journey without delay. The belt kept their garments in place, enabling them to move swiftly and unhindered. Similarly, God expects us to always wear the belt of truth around our waists. This exemplifies that the Christian soldier must remain unencumbered and ready for action at all times.

1. When we have the truth of who we are in Christ around us, we cannot be caught unaware by the devil’s tricks, lies, and deception. We’ll also recognize when good comes, because someone who sees as God sees—the TRUTH—will know when God shows up.

For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.” (Jeremiah 17:6 NKJV): This verse describes someone who doesn’t know who they are in Christ—those who trust in men and place their confidence in them. They don’t recognize when good comes. They don’t set the Lord always before them because they’re not acquainted with truth.

2. Another implication is this: a girdle tightly holds other armor in place. This means every other piece of armor will be out of place if the belt of truth is missing. Later, in subsequent series, we’ll explore other parts of the armor, like the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, and more, which are powerful weapons. But as beautiful as these are, many people hold wrong perspectives about them because they don’t see them the way God sees them. What I’m saying is that your perspective on everything else will be misaligned if you’re not girded with truth. Your view of righteousness, holiness, prayer, and many other biblical truths will be distorted if you don’t see things through the lens of God—Christ’s redemptive plan.

3. Another implication is that a girdle provides constancy and firmness. That’s what truth does for us—it makes us consistent and firm in our belief in Christ.

You’ve heard of people described as, “Oh, that guy started well. He began on the right path in ministry.” But along the way, they veered into error, and turning their backs on the truth they once preached and proclaiming the opposite. Why? Because such a person was never truly girded with the truth. Perhaps they never made that truth their own in the first place. But someone who is truly girded with truth will remain steadfast in their belief system. Neither luxury nor pleasure will distract them, nor will hardship or persecution cause them to waver.

We’ve seen many pastors in recent times become so comfortable that the luxuries and pleasures of this world have clouded their vision, shortchanging them from seeing the truth as it truly is.

Truth is constant. Truth is consistent. The truth remains the truth—and it will always be the truth. Someone once said, “Truth is whatever you say it is.” No! Truth doesn’t shift from generation to generation. Traditions may change, cultures may evolve, but truth remains the same—because God, the source of truth, is always the same. That’s why we must strive to uphold truth, not culture, tradition, or dogma at the expense of what truth is.

In the the next article, we’ll continue from here and examine how God sees things, so we too can see things the way God sees them.

Beloved, prayerfully meditate on these things.
