Introduction to shield of faith 2 (The victor's mentality 35)
In the previous article, I began sharing about the shield of faith and provided an introduction to it. One of the things we saw from the verse in Ephesians 6 is that the Bible says “above all,” meaning our faith covers all other armour. We saw that without faith, all other armour will be under attack. Faith is required to enable this armour to work effectively.
In today's article, I’ll continue with the introduction.
As I’ve always said, every one of these armours is not a performance we do. They are the life we inherit in Christ. And this shield of faith is one of them. So, faith is not a struggle, not striving, not forcing things to happen. Faith is confidence in the character and nature of God revealed in Christ.
We have seen in Christ that He is our Saviour,
our Redeemer,
our Sanctifier,
our Healer,
our Wisdom,
our Righteousness,
and more.
Therefore, when we now talk about faith as a shield, which every soldier is expected to hide behind, we are saying that faith is resting behind the shield of God’s character and nature. Faith is that which keeps you inside all the blessedness of Christ.
Let me share a scripture with us:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8 NKJV)
If Scripture says, “By grace you are saved through faith,” it shows that faith never stands on its own. Faith does not generate salvation; it receives what grace has already made available. In other words, it keeps you in contact with it. I can still say that faith is a response that rests inside God’s nature, His goodness, and His finished work in Christ.
I’m trying to explain how faith covers all the armour—including the soldier. In simple words, faith keeps you within the protection of all God has already supplied in Christ, just like a shield.
For instance, many Christians battle condemnation and, for that reason, fall into legalism. This happens because they’re not allowing their faith to hide them in Christ’s righteousness. You need to believe that the righteousness of Christ is yours. Instead of trying to feel worthy, your faith says, “I rest in who You are and who You have made me to be.”
There is a posture faith gives you: you expect nothing less than what God has supplied in Christ. When you’re waiting for provision, instead of panicking or forcing solutions, faith hides you in God’s nature as the Provider.
When you lack clarity or direction, take refuge in your shield of faith, and you are hidden within God’s unlimited wisdom.
In the next article, we shall continue. My beloved readers, prayerfully meditate on these things.
