Faith Life 70 (The centrality of the Lamb)
Ayoola Fakeye
As we approach the conclusion of this great series; Faith Life of believers, it's a blessing to the heart to conclude with this eternal subject, namely; the centrality of the lamb.
In the previous article, I shared Christ's redemptive work on the cross that brought the two dispensations (Old Testament saints and New Testament Saints) together under one family (Hebrews 11:39-40). Christ's substitutionary sacrifice is the binding force that brings the OT saints and the NT saints together unto God.
John, the beloved (as popularly called) in John 1, tells us of the slain Lamb that takes away the world's sins. Modern-day Pentecostals don't like the subject. However, it gladdens my heart to announce that the Lamb slain is the theme of the entire bible. The Bible is God's testimony to the Lamb. I discovered that when God wants to do something remarkable on the earth or in the life of a man, or when God intends to cut covenant with man, He refers a man to the sacrificial system that has to do with the slain Lamb. The references are Adam and Eve, Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Levite, David, Solomon, and the list goes on to us who have received the work of the lamb slain.
From Genesis to Revelation, the theme of the Lamb is Bold. Therefore, if our messages don't carry the Lamb's message, it is not the bible's message. The lamb is indispensable to all ages. It is a necessity for all men. Your first need is the Lamb, and your last need will still be the lamb. You remain irrelevant in God's kingdom according to God when the Lamb is not conspicuous in your doctrine and message. I implore all preachers of the word to emphasize what God has been emphasizing through all ages. And I also request every bible student to study the bible doctrine of the Lamb.
Apostle Peter’s epistle about the slain Lamb (1 Peter 1:18-21) tells us of the indispensable necessity of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. Nothing in this world could ever redeem us, not silver or gold. None of the angels can, neither the cherubim nor the seraphim. No one, absolutely nothing! The Jews were waiting for a king that would unseat the Roman Empire. But they don't know that before the Lion, there needed to be the Lamb. Before the King, there needed to be a redeemer. Beloved, we all need the Lamb for us to reign in life. The lamb is necessary for all men!
Dearly beloved, have you been washed with the blood of the Lamb? Is your garment white as snow? Only the Lamb can do that! Traditions can't. Devotions can't. Commitment can't. Activities can't. Morality can't. Religiosity cannot.
Another thing the Apostle highlighted from His message about the lamb is the perfection of the Lamb. Thus, he said, “you are redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and spot.” That is why Jesus is the only one that could exhaust the total penalty of the entire human race due to His absolute perfection. He stood between the two generations, drew all men’s sins, and nailed them to the cross. Jesus did it with fullness and completeness! Besides, he made an absolute foundation in which our Holy God can remain righteous while He pardons the penitent and believing sinners because, without the Lamb's blood, it would have been unjust for God to redeem man and forgive sin. Beloved, do you value the Lamb? Do you price what He did for us on the cross? Has it settled in your hearts?
The last thing I will want us to see in this article from Apostle Peter's exposition about the lamb is that the lamb was in the heart of God before men even fell. He said, “He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” (vs.20). The lamb is not the subject of the New Testament. The Lamb is the subject of all through eternity. The lamb was not an afterthought but has always been how God has planned to bring men into a divine relationship with Him. The lamb is the predestined savior of all people.
All other messages are failing. That is the message of the hour; Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.
