Faith Life 64 (Faith that overcomes obstacle 2)
FAITH THAT OVERCOMES OBSTACLES 2
By Ayoola Fakeye
“By faith, the walls of Jericho fell after they were encircled for seven days.” Hebrews 11:30
“Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.” Joshua 6:1-2
God told the people of Israel that they had already inherited the land. It’s already a done deal. That also must be settled in our hearts that our victory is a done deal.
The instructions God gave to the Israelites (Joshua 6:3-5)
God told them that the ark should be ahead of them so that everyone followed it. This ark is very symbolic of the Old Testament era. It symbolizes the presence of God.
God also instructed them to round the city once for seven days. Then on the seven days, they should do it seven times. And in all their proceedings, the ark must be ahead of them. What does this mean? Whatever instruction God has given you, whatever path he asks you to take, you must rest assured that he is already ahead of you. He will not lead you to where He will not be with you. If God asked you to engage in a particular path, no matter how uncertain it may look, see that if God has instructed me, it indicates He is already ahead of me in that place. That is why as Christians, we must be sensitive to the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit.
If the path you are engaging in does not come with inner Joy, peace, and righteousness, you can be sure God is not there with you. Because peace, Joy, and righteousness are the characteristics of the move of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)
Let me say this: God will not mislead you. He is never confused. He is not such that will abandon you in the middle of the way. If you are working in his path, you can be sure He is ahead of you.
God also instructed them to blow the trumpet as they move around the wall. By so doing, they were announcing the presence of God in their midst.
Jericho was the first obstacle they faced before they entered the promised land. And this first opposition was conquered without sword or any weapons, but by the mighty power of God. That is very significant! I believe what God wanted to teach them is that He will handle all the challenges or battles they will face by Himself. They needed to go with this mentality. They need to know that their self-effort won't have given them this promised land if the lord has not brought it to pass.
That must be the mentality to go with that; whatever the challenges you encounter on your way, it is the power of Christ working in you that will make you stay above them. You can’t help yourself. There is nothing good about self. Even when you want to bring something good out of your self-effort, evil is always mixed with it. That is why we see pseudo-Christianity all around. We see people trying to do good to others, but they intend to use them for their selfish interests. Whatever good self aims to do, evil will be incorporated with it.
Beloved, wait on the Lord; He will renew your strength. Wait on His words and move with them. His strength is always available in our weakness!
Logically, their marching and blowing of trumpets cannot pull down the wall. It cannot even remove one brick from it. What is the essence? God's instructions and principle are to build faith in us and keeps us near God's provision. For instance, tithing and giving are Biblical principles for receiving God's finances. It is not the tithing supplying the wealth, just as it is not their marching that pulled the wall down. But tithing puts us in a position of faith where we can receive God's wealth. I think the issue is that we have not so much trusted God and His word to follow it without excuse. The Lord asked us to pray. Is it the prayer that would give God's provision? Of course, No! It is what Jesus has already finished. But the Holy Spirit knows that without faith, it is impossible to enjoy God's wealth the way he wants us to. And prayer puts us in a position of faith where we receive from the Lord.
Finally, the Lord asked them to shout at the seventh round on the seventh day. They shouted for joy at the victory even when they had not seen it happen. They were rejoicing in the wall being pulled down when it had not already happened. That in itself relieves anxiety. Like many are so anxious. Are you full of questions, such as; How will it be? How will it be done? How will it fall? And many other questions out of anxiety. I admonish you to go into quality worship and praise. Sing and dance to the Lord and Make a joyful noise unto Him. It kills anxiety and worry. I also encourage you to join up with God's saints, fellowship with them, and share in the joy of fellowship. It may appear you are crazy. However, you are shouting because you know the battle has been won already.
