THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GOD'S PRESENCE
“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” Hebrews 11:27
Moses forsook Egypt, not fearing the king’s wrath because he endured. How did He resist Pharoh's stubbornness? Because He saw Him who is invisible. That is faith in its actual definition! Faith is the vision that transcends beyond the sense realm and focuses us solely on Christ. Moses could endure because He saw the invisible presence of God. It is invisible to the natural eyes yet tangible. The presence of God is not a figment of imagination. It is real and tangible! That is the reason Moses could endure the stubbornness of Pharaoh.
From the above scriptures, I have highlighted three significances of realizing God's presence around us.
1. It raises the soul above the fear of man
2. Equip or inspires the soul with patience in the trials of life
3. Inspires the soul with energy and perseverance for the tough duties of life
1. The realization of the presence of God raises the soul above the fear of man. In Moses's case, he didn't fear the king's wrath. Fear is real. The society we live in imposes fear on us day in and day out.
“The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25.
Dangers of living in fear
1. Fear enslaves a man. For instance, fear cages emotions, such that you can easily get intimidated or feel inferior at the sight of the person you fear.
2. Fear puts a man in a corner where his confidence is caged, and he will not be able to see himself in Christ.
3. Research shows that fear is one of the major causes of high blood pressure. Therefore, it affects health.
4. Fear also cages the thoughts. Many people cannot think straight, but they are ready to go the way of man or the person they fear, even if it doesn't make sense or is contrary to God.
Fear doesn't mean panicking alone. It also means aligning your life with what others say. It is a state where people's opinions dominate and control one’s life. I have seen cases where people fear losing their job or their associations. Therefore, they dance to the tune of their colleagues or boss even when it is contrary to God. Many believers are not bold to stand on the truth of God's word because they prioritize someone's outlook on them.
Generally, the fear of man is a life of slavery and trap. But trusting in God's presence is a life of freedom and security. For Moses, God did not tell him to plead with Pharaoh to allow them to leave, but God asked him to command Pharaoh—the Emperor. The command was, “let my people go!” How does it sound to command an Emperor? However, Moses did just as the Lord told him because the presence of God was more real to him than the Emperor sitting on the throne. If Moses had considered the terror of the Emperor, he might be timid to carry out God's instruction the way God wanted it.
After several casualties Egypt had experienced, Pharaoh called Moses to negotiate with him. He told him that he would only allow the men to go, leaving behind the women and the young ones (Exodus 10:9-11). But Moses rejected the proposal abruptly. If Moses had tension, he might have accepted such a proposal, but Moses was not concerned about who Pharaoh was when it comes to obeying God's instructions.
You might also have someone standing like Pharaoh on your way; don't worry, and don't compromise. Stick to God's way; He knows how to deal with Pharaoh. The presence of God is more than sufficient for you to go through life.
I have made a personal resolution that if someone stands in the way of my progress physically, that will never draw me away from the presence of God. Hallelujah! I have the presence of God at all times. God forbid that because of what I will eat, I should forget that I have the presence of God always with me.
Beloved, you have God's presence with you always!
By God's grace, I shall continue the other points in the next article. Shalom!
