DECISIONS MADE BY FAITH
“choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.”
Hebrews 11:25-26
In the previous articles, we have considered Moses’ refusal. Therefore, we must also consider what He chose.
The fact remains that you can't be on the fence. You will always have to refuse God for the devil, or refuse the devil for God. And the truth is, you can't accept God because you wanted to. Nope! Therefore, to decide for God requires Faith.
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” I John 5:4
Our faith is the Victory that overcomes the world. When we interpolate this statement with other Scriptures such as Colossians 2:15; then I can say our faith is equal to what Jesus did on the cross. What Jesus did on the cross is what overcame the world.
When a man receives Faith, what he receives is what Christ has done on the cross and the effect thereof. So, when we say we are walking in faith, what we are saying is we are walking in the reality of what Christ has done. This reality is what would make us choose God and not the devil; choose things that are above and not beneath (Colossians 3:1). We can’t just decide to follow God's way and path when we have not seen what Christ has done already.
Moses by faith refused to be called Pharaoh's Son, but instead chose to be identified with the people of God. Faith in the covenant-keeping God empowers Moses to follow God. And this same faith is that which will also empower you to follow God.
I discovered that we have limited the application of faith to just asking for what we need. And this is one of the reasons Faith is not having a full course in our lives. Truly, we have many believers that have the good things of life, yet without impact. Many Christians are even part of the pollution and corruption we are experiencing in our society because Faith is not working actively in us, bringing us into fellowship and communion with Christ.
Faith is not what we just used to get things from God, but faith is what the Holy Spirit uses to conform us to God's will. Just imagine faith empowering a man to choose affliction with God's people above the riches and position that Egypt has to offer. I wish that we can come to this level of Faith!
Let me give us some highlights about the choice of Moses.
The period Moses decided to follow God, was the time the people of Israel were subjected to hard labor and affliction. It’s not a beautiful time from the natural perspective to join up with the children of God. This is why I keep emphasizing that things in the natural will not allow you to follow God until we allow faith to have its perfect course in our lives.
So, it was faith that could have influenced Moses' Choice. Faith in the covenanted God; in God's promise and God's chosen ones-Israel.
Another beautiful thing I want you to see about this man Moses is that he referred to the children of Israel as the children of God.
Moses had been in Egypt where he experienced maximum comfort, prosperity, and success to the highest decree. On the other hand, the children of Israel whom he referred to as children of God are the afflicted and the poor ones. The truth is that this does not correspond to how many believers think or view things. If Moses also had viewed the situation from a natural standpoint, it would have been difficult for him to refer to Israel as the children of God.
I have met numerous believers that evaluate people based on achievement and what someone possesses. People now rate ministers of God by their cars and jet, and rebuff those who don't have access to such. If this is how you also evaluate people, then you can not be a man of faith like that!
Am I against possession? No! Am I against comfort? No! But I am for Faith, and it needs to be that which influences our evaluations and decisions. It has to be this victory that overcomes the world that is propelling us and driving us onward. It has to be as a result of our identification with the crucified and resurrected Christ that must influence our decision, if truly we are ready for the end time harvest.
Beloved, we must allow faith to work inside of us; refining us, just as it did in Moses.
