Faith Life 41 (faith affects reasoning)
GRACE ABOUNDS BIBLE STUDY
Hebrews 11:17-19
From the text above, we’ll see Abraham was aware of what Isaac is to be in his life. He understood that this is the promise they have waited for, and now he was on the line to be sacrificed.
So, if I may ask you; can we take the step Abraham took? Although, no one is asking you to offer Isaac, hasn't God deposited unto you His measure of grace? He has blessed you with resources, talent, and time. Have we not been shying back?
Abraham could take this step because it concluded in his mind that God would raise his child even when he is dead. He reasoned those words in his mind. If we will also be able to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, then we need to allow to engage our minds with what relates to Christ and what the Holy Spirit could achieve in us and through us. Abraham didn't go about the mission without engaging his thought
Although his thought was not a function of flesh and blood but was based on Faith in Christ. His reasoning was the reasoning of faith.
Faith doesn't deny our reasoning, but upgrades it to God's dimensions of thinking and evaluating things. God wants to affect our reasoning because when it is not affected, we will never be able to live for our master.
What was the foundation of his reasoning?
It was from the foundation of the resurrection life of God. This also must be the basis of our evaluation, from the perspective of the resurrected CHRIST, Such that what is true about Christ is true about you.
Abraham knew how he got his child in the first place. This child, Isaac, epitomizes Jesus in numerous forms such as:
1. Just as Isaac has been long promised before He came into fulfillment. So, also Jesus was long-promised, and the prophet prophesy about his birth before it came into fulfillment.
2. The birth of Isaac was a miracle, it is a supernatural intervention to the deadness of Sarah's womb and Abraham's reproductive system. Also Jesus' birth was a miracle, it was the divine working of the Holy Spirit.
3. They were both begotten and beloved by their father.
4. Just as Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice, so Also Jesus carried the cross for the sacrifice of the world.
5. Just as Jesus surrendered His life without arguing with the father. So, also Isaac surrendered his life without arguing with his father.
6. Abraham stretched forth his sword and was restrained by God. So, also God promised his son that His bone shall not be broken.
7. It was a three-day journey for Isaac and Abraham and after the third day Isaac was delivered to life, it was also a three-day journey for Jesus that started on the cross and went through to the grave, and after the third day, He rose to life eternal. Hallelujah!
Isaac is a great representation of Christ in many forms.
How did Abraham receive Isaac in the first place?
It was from a standpoint of resurrection! The bible declared that Abraham's reproductive system was dead and the womb of Sarah was dead as well. But glory to the resurrection and the Life, that is always bringing the dead back to life.
Abraham already understands the resurrection power of CHRIST. This is the reason he could conclude that if the promise was a result of the resurrection power of God, then he knew he will be able to receive back his son as a result of that same power.
As I conclude, I want you to know that the bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:20, ‘For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.’ Brethren, have you then been shying back? Is it not because you’re seeing from the standpoint of resurrection? For you to glorify God wholly with your being, we must also reason from the standpoint of resurrection.
Stay blessed!
