Hebrew 11:9-10
The bible says, “Abraham waited for a city which has foundation, whose builder and maker is the Lord.” And when we look at Hebrew 12:22-23, we would see the city which Abraham was looking forward to, which we have also been included as part of it because of What Christ did on our behalf on the cross. Abraham was not someone that saw only himself, but he saw people in Christ. So this really affected his disposition and how he handled life. The life of Faith is the life that sees people with the lens of Christ.
Matthew 16:15-19
The above scripture is a popular scripture where Jesus was asking His disciples who he really is. This is a question we need to always ask ourselves, “do we really know Jesus?” So Peter replied and said, “thou art Christ, the Son of the living God!” Christ means the ‘anointed one’, someone that has been appointed to redeem man. This revelation reveals Jesus as God-man and the mediator. That simple revelation and definition about Christ is all-encompassing.
Jesus responded to Simon and called Him, Peter. The first thing that the revelation of Jesus does to a man is that it first transforms him. Peter was the name given to Simon by Christ. Simon means a reed, that is, an unstable entity. But when Simon received revelation, he then received of Christ, Peter which means rock, that is, something that is solid. Brethren if our life will have meaning and take shape, we need a revelation of Christ from the Holy Spirit, because our lives take the form of the revelation we have received of the LORD.
Jesus said "upon this rock I will build my church!" The rock there is talking about the revelation of Christ that Peter received. This is the foundation upon which anyone can stand safe and secure eternally. We should not forget that Peter too was referred to as a rock, and the revelation was also referred to as rock. Our lives start taking the form of the revelation we have received of Christ. Nothing can withstand what is built upon the revelation of Christ. So this was the foundation of the city that Abraham saw, and the FOUNDATIONS has to do with the REVELATIONS of Christ.
The reason we get wearied and tired of staying in God's call and agenda for our lives is because we have lost sight of the revelation of Christ, so we are not conscious of it. The revelation of Christ is the motivation that keeps us going in the path of life. Therefore, the reason we’ve not been waiting just like Abraham did, and stay focus on the promised life we have now received in Christ is because we have shifted our stand from the foundation of our faith - the revelation of Christ.
In Hebrew chapter 11, the bible tells us that, “the builder and the marker of the city is the Lord.” So when we see it parallel to what we have read in Matthew 16, we would see Jesus replied Peter that, “flesh and blood has not revealed this truth to Him.” Actually what flesh and blood can only reveal to a man is what is sensual. If Abraham had been seeing things naturally with his five senses, he would never have seen that glorious city which he saw, and probably he would have built his own city by himself. It is not that flesh and blood can’t see something, but just that it cannot see things in the light of the resurrected Christ. For example, flesh and blood can see riches, but can’t see it in the light of the revelation of Christ. So this is why people sabotage and cheat others to enrich themselves because they are only operating sensually. But when a business is built upon the revelation of Christ and what He has done, such can be assured that because of what Christ has done, his business will be above and not beneath. The bible also tells us that “through Christ’s poverty on the cross, we have been made rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). Someone that walks with this revelation won’t think of sabotaging others or bring down others so as to be exalted. Instead, this revelation will transform us and set us on a God's course.
When we receive the revelation of what Christ has done, such that we know we have his joy, peace, love, patience, etc., then this revelation will help us in relating with people appropriately. We will therefore relate with people as Christ will do. Our lives begin to take the shape of the revelation of Jesus we have and our lives conform to it and get built up on it.
The revelation of the life of Christ you have received also impacts in us what we need to fulfill God’s purpose on earth. For example, we need discipline in our lives especially where we’ve been so lazy with our work. So when we start considering Jesus, how he was diligent and focus on what the father has asked him to do, this will sharpen our lives and cut off every excess. One thing I have discovered is that revelation gives birth to revelation.
Brethren we need to start building our lives and taking our step on the foundation of the revelation of Jesus that is being revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
Stay Blessed!
