THEME: FAITH LIFE OF CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS (Part 13)
TOPIC: FAITH NEUTRALISES SELF
SPEAKER: Peter Ayoola Fakeye (PAF)
Hebrew 11:5; Genesis 5:24
The Bible made a very strong statement here that, "Enoch walked with God to the point that he was not found in himself, but He was found with God, right in His presence." This is God's dream for humanity, that we will be found in Him; spirit, soul and body. Although, this dream shall be perfected at the second appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ. But in the meantime that we are here in this world, we already have the first fruit of this glorious redemption in our spirit man. We are not in possession of our spirit man the moment we come to God through faith in what Christ has done. The triune God becomes possessive of us with all that He is. The same nature of God is applicable to the spirit man of a born again child of God. For example, if God is eternal, then your spirit man is eternal and will never die and we are complete as He is complete in our spirit man. Therefore,we must be concious of this reality that we are Christ's in His totality in our spirit man. This is very important for us to understand, because when the world is offering hate, you will be able to tune to your spirit man, and relate with the life of Christ, so that you can respond appropriately to hate, jealousy, or bitterness thrown at you. When the society is also throwing fear at you, and trying to put tension on you; again you relate within the part of you where you are complete, and get to receive how to respond to those situations appropriately. Walking with God has to do with relating and fellowshipping with the life of God in our spirit man. It goes beyond prayer and fasting.
At this point, let me clarify the subject of prayer and how it affects our relationship with God. I believe a sincere child of God should not downplay the role of prayer, instead, we should understand the role of prayer in our lives. Although, It's very true that everything we need for life and godliness has already been made available by the sacrifice of Jesus. Therefore, we can't make God to do anything for us by our prayers. Trying to make God do anything for us based on what we do is a manipulative techniques and God can not be manipulated. Moreover, since we have established that walking with God has to do with relationship, and fellowshipping with His Life in us. Then we can't also relate with what Christ has provided for us without prayer. In the place of prayer, we get humbled of ourself, and we get focused on God's love, mercy and Grace, expecting to receive nothing else but that which has been provided for us by God's grace.
Also, we can't get to relate with what Christ has done for you without getting into the word of God, where our faith gets geared up and ignited to see Christ and what He's done for us. In the study of the scriptures, we get to see Christ and our sufficiency in Him. Therefore, where we have not been living according to what we have seen in Him, we humble ourselves in place of prayer and fellowship with His word, to receive what He's done. You will never have a consistent walk with God without the study of the scriptures. When we study the word, the Holy Spirit brings the word alive and you begin to see and walk in the inheritance you've already possessed.
Romans 6:23.
Brethren! If you have not been getting into the word and prayer, God is not condemning you, but the Holy Spirit want to help you out. Please! Don't excuse yourself out, rather, start relating with Him from here. Tell the Lord that, "I desire to have a consistent fellowship with you", and your desire to stay in His presence gets ignited with the light of the Holy Spirit.
It's true that there is no relationship without prayer and study of the word, but you must also know that prayer and studying the scriptures doesn't guarantee that you are in fellowship because If it is not based on faith in what Christ has done, then you've just done another task, aside from yielding to God's grace. God wants us to yield to His grace just as Enoch did. He yielded to the grace of God, to the point that he was not found in himself but was found in God.
John 3:30
The above scripture is the confession of John the Baptist. Although, the actual context of what He was saying is that, the more Jesus is coming into the fullness of His work, the more his job description is no more needed. This must be our experience by application, so that the life of Christ gets to flow in us and through us as we depend on His grace and mercy we have received in our spirit man. For we to really walk with God, it requires us putting faith in what Christ has done. It means we are relating with what God has declared about us. We can't overcome all that the world is throwing at us by self effort or self determination, but it takes a man that is focused on Christ's goodness to walk with God. This neutralizes our will power and self determination, and everything we will be conceiving becomes what the Holy Spirit is conceiving in us as we fellowship with Christ's life. When we walk in relation with the life of Christ, then we will to see to it that, everything that is not found in the life of Christ does not get to manifest in our lives. This is not a day Job, but it's a life of dependence on God's grace. One beautiful thing is that, God's hand is everly open to receive you at any point you are.
God bless you!
