Hebrew 11:1
Let me start by saying that, the life of Faith is the life God want us to live. As far as we have understood the scripture, you will agreed with me that we all possess the same Faith, "the very faith of our Lord Jesus Christ." But what differentiate us is our convictions.
Conviction is strong persuasion or belief about something. Last time, we started looking at the life of Abraham, in respect to his convictions. And we will still be seeing an example of his life, how Faith shaped his conviction about what God has told him.
The Bible says here that Abraham was not weak in Faith, which made him not to consider the external factors surrounding him. The reason we get wearied is because our faith is weak. This is a signal for us as Christian believers to know if we are weak in Faith or not.
Another thing I would like us to understand is that, no one has the authority to define reality, not even the devil. But only God defines the reality because He is the one that made reality in the first place (Genesis 1). The reality of life is what God has done. What the devil does is not the reality. The devil try to cook up circumstances to confuse us of our spiritual reality, so that we will not be convinced about it. Your reality is what God has said about you and declare you to be because of the cross of Christ. Therefore, don't allow what the devil is doing to confuse you of your reality in Christ Jesus.
When we study further into the above scripture, we'll see that, if Abraham had considered those external factors, he will not have made approach to his wife. If as a man, I can't perform my function conjugally, then my wife womb is dead, it's logical for me not to relate conjugally with her, considering those external conditions. But the truth is, without the coming together of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac won't eventually be conceived (God didn't promise them a virgin child because there can not be another vigin boy except Jesus). If you consider only your physical circumstances, you will never act in the positive direction. You will rather act against the process of your victory. You will be acting against the process of our manifestation when all you consider are your external circumstances.
Abraham wouldn't have met with his wife, if he'd considered those circumstances he found himself. The reason inspiration are not coming is because we have ignored what the word of God has said and we have been listening to external voices.
Faith is hard working, in such a way that, it pushes you forward and makes you act in the positive direction. You may not have lay hold on what you are trusting God about at the instant, but as long as you are keeping faith in the person of Jesus, you'll be moving in the positive direction.
What we are considering is that faith builds our convictions. Abraham did not get to the point of full conviction at the instant he received the promise from God. For instance, there was a time God was talking to Abraham about the promise of being the father of many nations, but he responded to God, "how can it be possible being that he has no child?" Someone that is fully convinced of what God has told him doesn't ask such question.
In Genesis 16, where Abraham's wife (Sarah) suggested that Abraham should go in with her maid, Hagar, which he complied. A convinced man doesn't act that way. This is just telling us that Abraham didn't reach full conviction at the instant he received the promise. But at every fall, or diversion, God's word always come around to him which made him launch out in faith again and again. Don't worry if in the process, you have been diverted or shifted focus, rather take up God's word again, launch out in Faith in what Christ has done, by doing so, your convictions is being built up. Don't allow the devil to laugh you out that you are a failure. You can only be a failure when you refuse to launch out again. When you keep on launching out in faith in the person of Christ and what He has done, you'll get to a point and position where you are fully grounded and unshakable in the word of truth. Hallelujah! This is how our strong convictions is built.
Considering the above scripture, we'll see that conviction can not be built up when our focus is what the world are doing against us. Paul talked about different circumstances we may find ourselves that may weigh us down; talking about tribulations, persecution, famine, nakedness, etc. But he said they are not enough to shift his focus from the love of Christ. What we have learnt to see constantly and consistently over time, built our convictions. To the extent that in the face of ups and downs, we still decide to hold on to that which is true, which is God's word and His love.
In the last two verses of Romans 8, Paul said he's fully persuaded, in other words, convinced that nothing can seperate him from the love of Christ. He is so much engulfed in the love of Christ that he is convinced that nothing can detached him from it. Friends! We need to constantly and consistently remind ourselves of the Father's Love for us. This builds our conviction to the extent that we remain unmovable in the truth and reality of His word.
